Ingredients for Moravian Goulash
- 50 millilitres (1.75 ounces) of salad oil
- 1130 grams (2 and a half pounds) of beef stew meat cut into 1 and a half inch chunks
- 3 cups of thinly sliced onions
- 4 teaspoons of paprika
- 225 grams (8 ounces) of canned tomatoes
- 1 and a half teaspoons of salt
- 200g of dill pickles chopped into chunks
Cook the onions in a pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes until they are soft. Add the meat and the tomatoes including the juice from the can, and 1 and a half teaspoons of salt. Next goes the paprika. Ensure your mixture is stirrred well. Add about 200 millilitres of water and stir again. Then pop the lid on the pan and allow your goulash mixture to boil. Once everything has reached the boil, reduce the heat to low simmer your goulash mixture, keeping the lid on the pan. Stir the mixture occasionally and add water every now and then to ensure the mixture does not become dry. Continue simmering, stirring and adding water if necessary until the meat is tender to pricking with a fork. Now add your chopped pickles and continue to stew for a further 5 minutes.
Serve your goulash over boiled or roasted potatoes for a tasty and nutritious meal.
